Rock Seconding School (RSS)

Practice on the indoor wallNick Climbing 01

Rock Seconding School (RSS) teaches climbers to be a Second climber for sport or traditional routes (single or multiple pitches). It is designed to take after the Basic Rock Climbing Seminar and before the Trad Leading School. The class has four evenings of lecture and hands on practice at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden. The evenings are followed by an outdoor field day where you practice your skills in real climbing situations. Everything comes together at the end of the class on a multi-pitch traditional climb with your instructors.

Prerequisites

1) ability to climb 5.6

2) Basic Rock Climbing Seminar (BRCS) or equivalent skills- tying into a harness, communication, belaying on top rope and basic rappelling. The skills acquired in RSS are belaying a lead climber, catching a leader fall, cleaning anchors and gear, additional knots, ascending a rope, belaying from above and rappelling off of multi-pitch climbs.
