Avalanche Terrain Avoidance Seminar

The Avalanche Terrain Avoidance (ATA) Seminar is meant to teach casual winter hikers (such as snowshoers and cross country skiers) how to avoid traveling in avalanche terrain. This 3-hour class is required for all new winter trip leaders certified after September 30, 2011. All CMC members and non-members are welcome. An optional field day is offered at no charge. Field trip participation is limited and sign up is required. Please see the Activity Schedule to sign up for this trip. The field trip will consist of identification of slope angles, avalanche terrain and non-avalanche terrain.

CMC leaders who wish to lead activities in the backcountry should sign up for the AIARE I course. Additional information can be found here.
